  2. Why • Document evidence on work on ecosystems & DRR • Part of wider joint initiative from TNC, GNDRR, UNU & IUCN - review on how: • Environmental organizations & agencies engage with DRR • DRR organizations engage with environmental work • Such work is communicated

  3. Results (1) 93 Member responses, 30% noted DRR as a core part of their mission Environments where joint work was focused. • Most work in terrestrial areas on • Erosion(70%) • Droughts(60%) • Floods (57%)

  4. Results (2) 72% work field based & Types of projects with environmental & disaster risk reduction objectives • Produced papers & guidance documents; • 50% work in partnership

  5. Results (3) • Few projects designed to meet both DRR & Env. objectives but there are joint results! • More guidance needed on project design to integrate ecosystem based DRR, & have clear learning opportunities

  6. Survey conclusions • Interest within Membership • Making progress, but more needed • Decision makers & donors supportive • We need to: • Make case for joint objectives; • Raise awareness & build capacity; • Improve the focus on coastal and marine; • Monitor & report on results – enhance the learning; • Explore opportunities for collaboration & build on evidence

  7. What this means for IUCN • Clarify links with IUCN 2013-2016 Programme as a nature based solution; • Harness our capacities, use partnerships & communicate; • Explore varied funding opportunities & engage with donors; • Influence conservation & development planning
