  1. The mission of The The University of Alabama Intramural Sports program strives to provide students, faculty, and staff, with the opportunity to participate in a variety of competitive recreational sports in a safe environment; to promote and provide quality service and facilities; to facilitate the wholesome and worthwhile use of social, physical, and mental skills of all participants. The desired outcome is achieved via participation in individual and team activities in a controlled environment, regulated by the policies established in the Intramural Sports Handbook. Campus Services • Office of Student Receivables • Handles all student account payments, located in 105 Student Services, or 348-5350 • Activity fees (part-time students) are paid there • Equipment Rental • Offered to UA student organizations, departments, students, faculty and staff • Pricing varies, and more information is available in the IM office or at 348-8055

  5. Policy & Procedure: Involvement • There are multiple levels of competition in Intramural Sports. Not every sport has each level. • Men’s Collegiate • Lowest level of men’s competition, for entry-level players • Men’s Semi-Pro • Intermediate level of men’s competition, for mid-level players • Men’s Pro • Advanced level of men’s competition, for very experienced players • Fraternity / Sorority • Limited to members of greek-letter organizations • Women’s Independent • All women not affiliated with a greek-letter organization • Co-Recreational • Mixed teams of males and females, open to all participants

  6. Policy & Procedure: Involvement • Participants without a team to play on frequently register as free agents. • Check your division’s web page on IMLeagues. Those interested in finding a team will be listed there. • You may add these players to your team at any time during the regular season, but they may only play for one men’s/women’s team and one co-recteam.

Policy & Procedure: Registration • As with this sport, registration for all other seasons and leagues will be completed online with IMLeagues. • Check the calendar for other sports registration periods. • New Sports Added for 2012-2013 • Ultimate Athlete, Sand Volleyball, Speedball • More to come in Spring 2013!

Policy & Procedure: Participation • Participants may only play for one men’s or women’s team and one co-rec team. • Example: A male participant may play on one team in men’s pro and one team in co-rec, but not on a team in men’s fraternity. • A valid ACT card from every player on your team is required to check in to your game EVERY SINGLE TIME, no exceptions! • Players can obtain a one-time pass from the Rec Center Front Desk if they have lost / forgotten their ID.

Eligibility Requirements • Current Students • Full/Part Time; fee paying students • Membership to SRC or IM Sports Pass ($100) required for summer participation • Faculty/Staff • 38.75 hours per week for staff • Member of the Student Recreation Center or guest pass fee paid before participating in each game

Eligibility requirements • Student Organization Affiliates • Affiliates are defined as an employee of a non-UA organization directly involved with UA Student Organization • ONLY one affiliate allowed/UA Organization regardless of how many teams they have • Affiliate must have a SRC Membership or guest pass in order to participate • Spouses • Spouses of students or full time faculty/staff • $100 IM Sports Semester Pass • Access to facility (membership acquired or guest pass fee paid for each game played)

Restricted Eligibility • Current Student Athletes • Defined as receiving any aid or benefit from Athletics • On the athletic roster for the current season, practicing with the team, etc. • Ineligible for their IM equivalent sport • Former Student Athletes • Defined as having played for the University within the last academic year. • Ineligible for one academic year from their IM equivalent sport. • Ex-Student Athletes • Defined as any University athlete who is cut or drops from an Athletic roster • Ineligible for 365 days from the date of drop in their IM equivalent sport.

Restricted Eligibility • Sport Club Athletes • May participate in any IM Sport, even the IM equivalent sport they play for a club • No team may have more than 2 club players on its roster at any time • Professional Athletes • Defined as any participation in Major-League sports, or any full-time paid athletic performance • Ineligible for 2 calendar years from last appearance

Eligibility Challenges • Don’t get caught with an ineligible player! • IM Staff may check eligibility status at any time, and any game played with an illegal player is counted as a forfeit. • This also voids your chance for the playoffs! • Challenges to eligibility can come from any team captain, as well. • Must come within 5 business days of the game the alleged ineligible player participated in. Eligibility protests are handled in the IM Office only.

League Scheduling • League schedules will be posted on IMLeagues about 48 hours after the close of registration. • YOU are responsible for getting and knowing YOUR team’s schedule. • Rainouts / Emergency Situations • Call the rain hotline at 205-348-2708. • The hotline will be updated daily by 3:00 pm and as weather problems or emergency situations affecting the IM schedule arise each night.

Rescheduling • Reschedules for weather or emergency situations • IM Sports reserves the right not to reschedule season play • Playoff and tournament games WILL be rescheduled • Reschedules for team conflicts • Only documented ACADEMICexcuses which would cause a team to have too few players will be considered grounds to reschedule a game • Excuses must be received one business dayBEFORE your scheduled game. • Academic excuses include: Class, lab, recitations, etc… • Excuses do not include: Study sessions, group meetings

Game time is forfeit time! • If your team is not at the game site for any reason at game time, your opponent may accept the win or give you a 10-minute grace period. • After the grace period, IM Staff will force the forfeit. • If you know you will not be able to play a scheduled game, you must call the IM Office before 3:00pm the day of the game. • This is a Default, and will not cause you to lose your forfeit deposit, but remains a loss. However, two defaults = forfeit (and loss of deposit.)

Policy & Procedure: Sportsmanship • Teams are expected to maintain sportsmanlike behavior at all times. • This includes staff, spectators, teammates, and opponents • Teams will be given a sportsmanship rating by the officials and staff at the end of the game. • Minimum of 3.00 average is required for playoffs • IM Administrative Staff have, and reserve, the right to review or alter any rating for any reason.

  19. Sportsmanship Rating Scale • “A” (4.00) • Players cooperate fully with officials, are respectful, and are generally exemplary in behavior. This rating is the ideal condition. • “B” (3.00) • Players demonstrate respect for staff and others, but have a few minor incidents or outbursts, but are generally cooperative and sportsmanlike • “C” (2.00) • Players show lack of respect for staff or opponents which may or may not result in an unsportsmanlike penalty • “D” (1.00) • Players are generally unacceptable, disrespect for staff or opponents is rampant, likely resulting in unsportsmanlike penalties or ejections • “E” (0.00) • Players are completely out of control, exhibit constant disrespect for staff or opponents, likely resulting in unsportsmanlike penalties and ejections. An “E” rating is grounds for dismissal from the Intramural Program

  20. Ejections • Participants can be ejected for violating the code of conduct, or for exhibiting unsportsmanlike behavior. • Includes disrespect of staff, sport-specific penalties, violent or unsafe play, etc… • Ejected players are IMMEDIATELY ineligible for ALL IM Sports, including other sports they play. • To regain eligibility, reinstatement procedures (given to the player at the time of ejection) must be followed.

  21. Policy & Procedure: Protests • All protests must be made immediately on the field of play. • May only dispute the application of a rule. • Protesting an official’s judgment call is not a valid form of protest • The game will be stopped, and documentation completed. Further instructions will be provided by IM Supervisory and Administrative Staff at the time of the rule protest.

Equipment Policy • Teams must wear the same color (or same hue) jersey to the game site. • Same hue is defined as, for example, all shades of blue, where royal blue and baby blue would be considered equivalent. • Jerseys must also have a visible number on the back. • No pockets are allowed in shirts or shorts in any IM Sport except softball.

  23. Equipment Policy • No jewelry may be worn during an Intramural event. This includes earrings and watches. • Medical alert bracelets are excepted to this rule, but must be taped down. • No obscene or offensive logos may be present on any part of a team’s equipment. • Numbers should be chosen from this list: 0-5, 10-15, 20-25, 30-35, 40-45, 50-55 • REMEMBER: NO POCKETS ARE ALLOWED IN SHIRTS OR SHORTS! • YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PLAY IF YOU HAVE PCOKETS!

  24. Captain’s Responsibilities • Captains are expected to educate their teams on the policies and procedures and all rules pertaining to their sports. • You must also attend all meetings • You are responsible for the behavior of your team and spectators! • You can be held accountable for unsportsmanlike conduct among your teammates and you team’s spectators.

Captain’s Responsibilities • You are also required to educate every member of your team on the Sportsmanship policy. • Remember that you can be held accountable if they do not adhere to policies! • Remind your team that GAME TIME IS FORFEIT TIME! • You don’t have to physically bring your teammates to the game, but you are responsible for making sure they remember to be there ON TIME!

Captain’s Responsibilities • All captain’s meetings are MANDATORY! • You will be removed from the playoffs if you fail to attend the Playoff Captains’ Meeting! • In order to qualify for the playoffs, you must: • Attend the Captains’ Meeting • Have a .500 or better win-loss ratio • Have less than 2 forfeits • Have a 3.00 or better average sportsmanship rating for the regular season

  28. Equipment • No metal cleats • No shorts with pockets, belt, blet loop, pocket, zipper, or exposed drawstrings • Jerseys mush match in color • Number must be visible • No taped numbers • No Jewelry • Players must have their action card to sign in and play • Teams supply their own soccer ball

  29. Number of Players • 7 Players on the field at a time. • 1 goalie • 6 field players • 5 players are required to start the game • In Co-rec 2 male and 2 female field player are required and 1 goalie of either gender are required to start the game

Game • 2 20 minute halves • Game time is forfeit time. • Teams must be on their field, signed in, and ready to play at the time of their game. • Mercy Rule • 20 goals at any time during the game • 10 goals at the 10 minute mark • Over time • 5 minute overtime period • If still tied 5 penalty kicks for both team to decide a winner • 5 players that are on the field when the overtime is over • If still tied Sudden Death penalty kicks • 1 player who has not kicked yet • Co-rec kickers must alternate between genders

  31. Rules • NO Slide tackling • Goals • A goal MAY be scored from a kickoff, direct free kick, goal kick, penalty kick, corner kick, drop ball, goalkeeper’s throw, punt, or drop-kick. • A goal MAY NOT be scored from an indirect free kick, throw-in, or a free kick into a team’s own goal. • In Co-rec a female goal is worth 2 points and male goal is worth 1 point. • A player who receives a yellow card must leave the field and be replaced until the next legal substitution • A player who receives a red card is ejected from the game and may not be replaced • The ejected play must meet with the coordinator of Intramurals before they can play again • A team that receives 3 yellow cards during a game will forfiet

  32. Playoffs • Must have a 3.0 rating for sportsmanship • Must have a .500 record or better • Must come to the Captains playoff meeting
