  8. COLD WAR TIMELINE ACTIVITY • EQ: What are main events of the Cold War and the order in which they occurred? • Objective: Integrate Mathematics and History by creating a timeline of the events of the Cold War.

  9. COLD WAR TIMELINE ACTIVITY • Task: • Look at the time line and choose at least 1 main event from each decade to place on your time line. (You may choose more than one.) • Using a sentence strip and the ruler, evenly divide the sentence strip by the number of chosen events you are going to place on your time line. • Write the date and the event at the top of each tick mark. • Draw and color a picture to represent each event. • *Additional Time Line Dates • *PDF of Time Line Cards for Activity

  12. 1950S ACTIVITIES: KOREAN WAR • Learning Objectives: After completing this lesson, students should be able to: • Explain why the United States became involved in the war in Korea • Assess the decision to send U.S. and UN forces across the 38th Parallel into North Korea • Discuss the conflict between Truman and MacArthur, culminating in the latter's dismissal from command • Articulate the reasons why the war became unpopular in the United States • Identify on a world map foreign countries associated with the Korean War • Identify key terms and individuals associated with the Korean War • EQ: Why did the United States become involved in the Korean War? • Korean War Lesson

BERLIN WALL JIGSAW ACTIVITY Task: • Organize students into Jigsaw Groups. • Each group member is assigned to research part of the topic. • Each group member reads the article(s) assigned. • After each group member has read their article, they are to get together with others that have been assigned to the same article, and become experts together. Take notes about assigned topic. • Go back to their Jigsaw Group and “teach” the other group members about their topic and fill in the rest of the note taking guide.

  16. TEACHING WITH THE JIGSAW METHOD? • Defined: Just as in a jigsaw puzzle, each piece--each student's part--is essential for the completion and full understanding of the final product.   22. 1980S CULTURE DURING THE COLD WAR • The Cold War was reflected in culture through music, movies, books, television and other media. One element of the Cold War often seen relates directly or indirectly to the threat of a nuclear war. Another is the conflict between the superpowers in terms of espionage. Many works use the Cold War as a backdrop, or directly take part in fictional conflict between the U.S. and the U.S.S.R. The period 1953-1962 saw Cold War themes first enter the mainstream culture as a public preoccupation.
