Final Remarks

This workshop aimed to bring together experts in different materials to develop a common language and basic concepts. Highlights include inhomogeneous patterns in oxides and DMS's, self-organization, and new directions in multiferroics and complex oxide heterostructures. Possible sites for the next meeting include Switzerland, Italy, England, Germany, Spain, Hungary, Poland, and Greece. Funding for the workshop was provided by LLB CEA/CNRS, IMS NCSR "Demokritos", and ORNL.

  2. Highlights • Main object of workshop fulfilled: • bring together experts in different materials to develop a common language and a set of basic ideas and concepts. • Commonalities: • inhomogeneous patterns in many oxides and in DMS’s at low x; • simultaneous influence of lattice, charge, spin and orbital interactions as well as quenched disorder; • self-organization. • New directions: multiferroics; • functionalities related with heterostructures involving complex oxides; • transport in correlated systems, etc.

  3. Next Meeting • Possible Dates: Summer 2008 or 2009. • Possible sites: • Proposed: • Switzerland: Ming Shi, Joël Mesot • Sardinia, Italy: Paolo Radaelli • Additional possibilities: • England? • Germany? • Spain, Hungary, Poland, Greece? • If you want to volunteer to organize the next meeting contact Martine Hennion, Fernande Moussa, Adriana Moreo or Georgios Papavassiliou.

  4. Acknowledgments • Funding: • LLB CEA/CNRS, Saclay, France. • IMS, NCSR “Demokritos”, Athens, Greece. • ORNL, Oak Ridge, TN, USA. • Local Organisers: • Fernande Moussa • Martine Hennion
