Titles That Get Italics/ Underlined • Epic Poem (book-length) • Novel • Collection of essays • Collection of short stories • CD or album • Play, ballet, or opera • Film • Entire TV series • Complete book • Encyclopedia • Magazine • Newspaper • Pamphlet • Visual art (sculptures, drawing, painting, etc.)

  5. A Few Extra Notes • If your work is handwritten and it is not obvious what italicized, underline the titles • Traditional religious works are capitalized, but not underlined or italicized (the Bible, the Torah, the Koran, the Book of Mormon) • Do not use quotation marks or italics for your own unpublished essays

  6. Capitalization of Titles • First and last word • Every noun, verb, adjective, and adverb • Capitalize words that are more than 3 letters long • Prepositions and articles are usually not capitalized • If the title is very short, you may capitalize each word • Only capitalize the first letter – not the entire word
