TITLE: Hurricane Harvey Flood Insurance and Resources for Texas  Residents  People are rescued from a flooded neighborhood after it was inundated with rain water, remnants of Hurricane Harvey, on August 28, 2017 in Houston, Texas. Hours are 7 a.m.-7 p.m. daily at: • Katy Mills Mall (Fort Bend County), 5000 Katy Mills Circle • Baytown Community Center (Harris County), 4407 Market, Baytown • Greenspoint Mall (Harris County), 263 Greenspoint Mall • Webster Civic Center (Harris County), 311 Pennsylvania, Webster • Netrality Building (Harris County), 1301 Fannin • Simonton Community Church, 9703 FM 1489, Simonton Disaster survivors can visit any location for assistance. Locations of other recovery centers at ​fema.gov/DRC​​ or ​https://texashurricaneharvey.com/​. ● HoustonRecovers.org​: The central hub for information on Harvey recovery. It will be updated once emergency operations are completed. Call IRS customer service representatives at 800-829-1040, available Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. local time Texas Workforce Commission​ gives unemployment benefits to those who are out of work due to Hurricane Harvey, click ​here​ to apply.   2. Housing assistance: ● Rebuildinghouston.org​ helps senior, disabled and veteran homeowners in Harris County with home rebuilding efforts. Call 713.659.2511 for more information. Airbnb​ is helping find temporary housing for those displaced by the floods. +1-415-800-5959 call +1-855-424-7262 (toll-free) Those eligible for FEMA's Transitional Shelter Assistance program may be able to stay at a participating hotel free of charge temporarily if they are unable to return home. Harris County Housing and Community Resource Center​ helps with locating emergency shelter, rental property and financial assistance. Call them at 713-696-1998. The ​Salvation Army​ has three emergency shelters open to assist evacuees and those who have lost their homes: Harbor Light Center (2407 N Main St., Houston), Sally's House (1717 Congress Ave.) and Family Residence (1603 McGowen St.); as well as 30 mobile kitchens providing hot meals, snacks and water to over a dozen neighborhoods in and around the Houston area. ● ● ● ● Legal assistance: ● Houston Volunteer Lawyers​ are offering free legal assistance to those affected by Harvey. The State Bar of Texas​ Disaster Hotline: (800) 504-7030. The hotline — answered in English, Spanish, and Vietnamese — connects low-income people affected by a disaster with legal aid providers in their area who can help with such issues as replacing lost documents, answering insurance questions, helping with landlord-tenant problems, and handling consumer protection concerns such as price-gouging and contractor scams during the rebuilding process. Callers can leave a message at any time. TexasLawHelp.org​ provides ​this list​ of legal advice articles for disaster recovery The Houston Bar Association, Houston Volunteer Lawyers and Lone Star Legal Aid are setting up clinics throughout the area that will be open to the public. The next legal assistance clinic is scheduled for Sept. 6 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Montrose Center (401 Branard St.) The ​Houston Bar Association​ has expanded its LegalLine program — from Sept. 5 to Sept. 29, volunteer attorneys will man the phone line to assist affected residents with legal advice on landlord/tenant matters, insurance, FEMA assistance, property, lost documents and other storm-related issues ● ● ● ●

Veterans who need legal advice or legal assistance can visit a free legal clinic scheduled in Montgomery County on Saturday, September 9, 2017. The clinic will be held at the Conroe VA Outpatient Clinic, 690 South Loop 336 West, Conroe, TX 77304 from 9:00 a.m. until noon. No appointment is necessary. The clinic is a public service of the Montgomery County Bar Association, The Woodlands Bar Association, and the Houston Bar Foundation's Veterans Legal Initiative. Texas RioGrande Legal Aid​ can help low-income Harvey survivors with post-disaster legal issues, such as accessing FEMA disaster aid, insurance questions, landlord-tenant problems, replacing vital documents, and consumer protection problems like price-gouging and contractor scams in the rebuilding process. This toll-free hotline (1-866-757-1570) -- answered in English and Spanish -- can connect people who qualify for assistance with free legal aid providers in their area. Callers should wait for up to three minutes for a response. ● ●
