About PMI's Credentials • The Project Management Institute, PMI, offers a comprehensive certification program for practitioners with different levels of experience. • The program supports a career framework in the project management profession. • There are currently five credentials (certifications) available and no one credential serves as a prerequisite for another. • For more information on all credentials and for details on PMI exam policies and procedures, read the online handbook for the credential in which you are interested. • For more information on a specific credential, see www.pmi.org

  3. Candidate Assessment • Reviewing Education and Experience – • A combination of education and/or experience in project management is required for each certification. • For example, the PMP requires both training specifically in project management and experience in the role of a project manager by leading and directing project teams, while delivering project results. • Testing Competence – • The candidate is required to apply project management concepts and experience to potential on-the-job situations through a series of scenario-based questions. • Ongoing Development – • Maintenance of a PMI certification requires the accumulation of ongoing professional development and education or, in the case of the CAPM, re-certification.

Purpose of the PMBOK® Guide • The PMBOK® Guide is a recognized standard for the project management profession and has a twofold purpose: • To identify the subset of the overall Project Management Body of Knowledge that is generally recognized as good practice • To provide and promote commonlanguage and vocabulary

PMBOK – 5th edition • Released January 2013 • Major updates include the following: • A new Section 3 addresses project management processes and process groups. • A 10th Knowledge Area has been added • Project Stakeholder Management expands upon the importance of appropriately engaging project stakeholders in key decisions and activities. • Four new planning processes have been added. Created to reinforce the concept that each of the subsidiary plans are integrated through the overall project management plan. • Plan Scope Management • Plan Schedule Management • Plan Cost Management • Plan Stakeholder Management
