  6. Journal Entry • What do you know about subjunctive tense? What is it used for? How is it conjugated? Do you know any shortcuts or easy ways to remember the subjunctive tense and details about it?

  7. Examples in English • What did he ask you to do? • He asked us to clean the house • I would like for you to read the book. • It’s unfortunate that Carla didn’t come yesterday. • I wish I had as much money as she does • **Used when the verb in the main clause is in past tense or conditional and requires subjunctive in the second clause**

  8. Imperfect Subjunctive • Two possible endings: • Ra endings • Se endings • Assemble it by taking the –ron off the third person plural preterite (ellos, ellas, ustedes) form and replacing it with the correct ending.

  13. Preterite Perfect Subjunctive

  14. Examples in English • I hope you have taken out the garbage • No, I don’t think he has solved his problems yet. • I would have liked for you to finish your work.

  15. Formation • The present perfect subjunctive is formed with the present subjunctive of haber + the past participle of the main verb.

  16. Translate these • I hope he has learned his lesson. • I doubt they have heard that song before. • Have you known someone who has been in class before? • I doubt they have made any good food. • We think she has been in the house. • I don’t think you have prepared enough.

  17. Journal entry • After what we saw yesterday and the day before in class, how many more types of subjunctive do you think there could be? What would they deal with?

  18. Pluscuamperfecto Subjunctive

  19. Examples in English • They didn’t give it to me because they needed someone who had already finished his studies. • There was no one around who had already been there. • I need to know that you had done it before you left.

  20. Formation • Pluperfect is formed with the imperfect subjunctive of the verb Haber + the past participle of the main verb

  25. Examples in English • She wants you to stay here. • I suggest you participate in this activity. • I forbid you to talk to her anymore. • They don’t allow drinks to be near the computers. • I want you to leave. • They will want me to arrive there very early.

  26. If the verb is irregular in the first person singular of the present tense- it will be irregular in Subjunctive

  27. Extra Notes • Reminder***Any stem changers in present tense yo form will always be stem changers.*** • This form will also be used with desires “I want you to do this”, “I don’t want you to do this”
