  3. ABTC Mission To provide a process for certification for healthcare professionals practicing in the field of transplantation Purpose of Certification is to: Improve Patient Care & Outcomes Demonstrate Competency Improve Outcomes

  4. Who are we? • The American Board for Transplant Certification is an independent, not for profit organization that was founded in 1988. Its purpose is to award a voluntary, non-governmental certification credential.

  5. How Exam Content is Derived • ABTC contracts with the testing agency Applied Measurement Professionals (AMP) for examination development • Under the instruction of AMP, ABTC forms committees of content experts to develop a job task analysis and gather published content materials

  6. How Exam Content is Derived • Job Task Analysis Survey is distributed to practicing professionals • Survey data is compiled and reviewed by the ABTC Examination Committee and AMP • Statistical Analysis is applied that has consistency rules set in advance on what tasks meet the requirements for inclusion on the examination

  7. How Exam Content is Derived • Any tasks not given a critical/significant rating are “tossed out” • After the committee has rated all critical tasks, cognitive levels are assigned to each task – recall, application or analysis • Committee again, under instruction from AMP, determines the distribution of cognitive level tasks over the entire exam content domain.
