  2. Building the Bridge • Before NIMAS/NIMAC • For several years Publishers provided digital files for special materials production. • Before NIMAS the task of providing files was decentralized. • Quality was not uniform. • “Finding the right person” could be time consuming and frustrating.

  3. Crossing the Bridge • The immediate production benefit of NIMAS/NIMAC • Production departments make PDFs, a file format. • Once the AIM task became “make NIMAS”, publishers applied the same efficiencies. • Uniform spec, both internal and external • Scale pricing (global) • Centralized workflow

  4. Crossing the Bridge • NIMAC Team • The technology worked. • State deadlines caused files to flood in. • Always cool. • Conduit for communication between the source and recipient.

  5. Reaching our Destination • Improving NIMAS/DAISY files • Capturing corrections no matter where they are made. • AMP, distribution partner, DSS office • Proofreading, Structure, (quality improvements) • Alt descriptions, MathML, (additional content)

  6. Reaching our Destination • Content availability • Working with our partners to provide access to source materials. • Illustrator files for tactile graphics • Structured page files (Future)

  7. Reaching our Destination • Supporting Braille literacy • Better production tools needed. • NIMAS to Braille • MathML to Braille • Cost effective delivery of tactile graphics

  8. Reaching our Destination • Access to general education materials • The best solution. (WLATMSFTM) • 2010. • Working closely with AIM partners. • Next generation designers and developers assume it’s necessary.
