  1. The actor observer effect

  2. The actor observer effect Difference in how we explain behavior and characteristics: • Actor – explain own behavior and characteristics • Observer – explain other peoples behavior and characteristics

  3. Internal and external attributions Attribution means explaining behavior • Internal attributions Reasons that have to do with the self of the actor like the personality • External attributionsThings as the surrounding like, the task and other people Let us show you what it actually means!

  4. Negative experience • Actor, your own negative behavior– you blame it on the situation • Observer, other persons negative behavior • – you will blame it on the person themselves

  5. Positive experience • Actor, your own positive behavior– you say it is the person yourself, that you deserved the good experience • Observer, other persons positive behavior – you will say that the person experiencing it, is just lucky with the situation

  6. People that are close by you tend to see as yourself

  7. How does this influence the way we look at celebrities For celebrities we feel very close to we tend to attribute according to the rules for ourselves • So their negative behavior is not their fault and you blame it on that situation • And their positive behavior is because they earned it

  8. For celebrities we have a ‘normal’ relationship to, we use the general rule and see them as others • So their negative behavior is the person itself fault • And their positive behavior is because of the situation, they where just lucky

  9. How might celebrities reality soaps and gossip magazines influence the actor observer effect • You get to know them • You do not have to guess their behavior anymore
