  2. El Presente Progresivo pasado hoy futuro We use the present progressive to describe an action that is in process at the moment we are talking. ¡ahora mismo!

  5. El Presente Progresivo + ESTAR -ando or -iendo In English you would never say: “He walking.” or “She working.” You say: He’s walking.orHe is walking. She’s working.orShe is working. We do the same in Spanish: Never leave out the verb ESTAR

  8. ¿En inglés o en español? In English you can say: I am working right nowor I amworking tomorrow *** In Spanish you cannot do this. The progressive in Spanish is ONLY used to describe an action that is in process at the moment we are talking (ahora mismo). *** In Spanish we can use the expression IR + A + Infinitive to refer to the near future (tomorrow). Estoy trabajando ahora mismo. Voy a trabajar mañana.

Más ejemplos…: It is always necessary to use the verb estar and the participle (–ando / –iendo) of the main (action) verb • Amanda y su bebé estándurmiendo. • Amalia estálavando los platos. • ¿Vosotros estáisestudiando? • Tú estáspensando mucho en este examen. • Mis amigos están llamando por teléfono. • ¿Quién está hablando en clase?

  11. A couple little tricky things…. Sometimes you must change the spelling in order to maintain the original sound of the word. This is called an orthographic change. Some common examples are: caer: cayendocreer: creyendohuir: huyendoir: yendoinfluir: influyendooír: oyendotraer: trayendoleer: leyendob One way to remember which to change is to conjugate the verb “normally” and if you end up with three (3) vowels in a row, then you need to replace the “i” with “y”. present progressive…-ING

Drop the “i” & add a “y” tra Yendo IENDO Why??? Say the first version (with the 3 vowels) and then say the word with the replacement “y” in there. Which one is easier to say?? caIENDO or caYendo present progressive…-ING

To form the present participle of -irstem changing verbs, change e->iand o->uin the stem, and then add -iendoto the stem of the verb. e->i servir (to serve)pedir (to ask for) decir (to say) servir sirvir sirviendo pedir ->>> pidiendo decir ->>> diciendo o->u dormir (to sleep)morir (to die) poder (to be able to) dormir durmir durmiendo morir ->>> muriendo poder ->>> pudiendo present progressive…-ING
