Organisational Alignment for broad-based BI delivery • Organisational structures are evolving to satisfy demands to take BI to a broader audience. • Analyst recommendations suggest the establishment of a BI Competency Centre (‘BICC’) • BICCs in practice appear to include BI analysts and many virtual team members from business.

  3. ECM Technology for BI Delivery • ECM tools are increasingly used as the platform for BI delivery. Initially this has taken the form of securing BI content and wrapping reporting and analytics in • In this video we look briefly at: • Examples of successful ideas emerging for BI delivery in the context of an organisation’s ECM tools. • Selected metrics for tracking BICC success in these sorts of delivery. • ECM capabilities mentioned are broadly supported by a variety of ECM platforms including SharePoint.

BI in the ECM context - examples • Consider adopting existing organisational ECM metadata standards for BI information : • Information security classification • Data Quality related metadata • Attach to reports, analytics, requests for reports • Move beyond assumption of perfect accuracy in all reporting • Particular useful in near real-time scenarios • Apply information policies to static BI content once delivered.

BI in the ECM context - examples • Track evolving complex measure and dimension term definitions in wikis. • Attach discussion, tagging and rating capabilities to more complex dashboards. • Manage requests to the BICC through the portal using workflow and forms; integrate request status feedback into the overall BI portal. • Specialised requirements may be met by mashing up BI & OLTP data (retrieved using business data connectivity)

BICC Delivery Metrics • Success measurement (BI about BI) often appears neglected in BICC delivery arrangements. • Use usage tracking & survey capabilities to understand consumption and demand and in particular to measure: • BI Delivery relevance • Levels of accuracy demanded (and delivered) • BICC workload & turnaround times • User ability to self-service
