  4. Doctrine of the Holy Spirit’s MinistryD. The ministry of the Holy Spirit in the time of the Hypostatic Union.

  5. 1. During our Lords’ First Advent there were a few believers who were endued by the Holy Spirit, such as John the Baptist.Luke 1:15-17, 67; 2:25-27

  6. 2. Common and Efficacious Grace and Salvation are the same in every dispensation, but not the ministry of the Spirit to the believer.

  7. 3. The prophecy and fulfillment of the ministry of the Spirit to Christ.

  8. a. Prophecy: Isa 11:2; 42:1; Mat 12:18.

  9. When anyone has the Holy Spirit, they have their own counsel and understanding. They do not have to go to anyone else for counseling.

  10. With doctrine in your soul and the filling of the Spirit you have the ability to counsel yourself.

  11. b. Fulfillment: Mat 4:1; 12:28; Mark 1:10-12; Luke 4:14-21; 10:21; John 1:32-34; 3:34

  12. Luke 4:1,“Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led around by the Spirit in the wilderness.”

  13. 4. The Indwelling and Filling of the Spirit is always related to God’s Power System. Luke 4:14; Acts 1:8; 10:38; Rom 15:13, 19; 1 Cor 2:4; Eph 3:16; 1 Thes 1:5; 2 Tim 1:7

  14. Luke 4:14, “And Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit.”

  15. Rom 15:13, “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

  16. Eph 3:16, “That He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man.”

  17. 5. The humanity of Christ was both Indwelt and Filled with the Spirit, which is the precedence for our relationship with the Holy Spirit in the Church Age.

  18. 6. The humanity of Christ dwelt in the prototype GPS and since Pentecost we have the operational type GPS.

  19. 7. Our Lord was sustained in His humanity by the Spirit. He did not use His own Divine attributes to glorify Himself or to fulfill anything in the strength of His Divine power. Phil 2:7

  20. 8. Our Lord offered the Filling of the Holy Spirit to any of His disciples who would ask for Him. Mat 7:7; Luke 11:9 cf Luke 11:13

  21. 9. None of them ever did ask for the Enduement, yet our Lord gave the Holy Spirit to the disciples without their asking. John 20:22

  22. John 20:22,“And when Jesus had said this, He breathed on them and said to them, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit.’”

  23. 10. We do not ask for the Holy Spirit during the Church Age since we receive Him at the moment of salvation. Rom 8:11; 1 Cor 3:16, 6:19-20; 2 Cor 6:16 cf Eph 1:13-14; 4:30; 2 Cor 1:22

  24. 11. The Holy Spirit empowered the humanity of Christ to sustain Him in all aspects of His earthly ministry including the Cross, Heb 9:14, and Resurrection, Acts 2:24; Rom 1:4; 8:11; 1 Cor 6:14; 1 Peter 3:18.
