  2. Martin Sheldon Thrasher is the owner of Dixie Exhaust Cleaning, a fire protection company with offices in Georgia and Alabama. The fire protection systems that Mr. Thrasher works with are designed to prevent or mitigate the unwanted effects caused by fires.

  3. Water The most common type of fire protection systems that are used in homes and commercial properties are sprinkler systems. These systems use a series of sprinklers and an automatic alarm check valve. When the system is exposed to heat above a certain degree, the heat sensitive element that is built into the system retracts, allowing water to flow from the sprinklers.

  4. Gas When you are protecting water sensitive equipment, like data servers or paper archives, water isn’t the best method for fighting a fire. In these instances, a gas suppression system will be used. These systems work by suffocating the fire to prevent it from spreading.

  5. Foam When a fire involves oil, water will react negatively to it. To combat these kinds of fires, foam is used to block atmospheric oxygen from getting to the flame by suffocating it with a blanket of foam.

  6. Detection Detectors are the first line of defense against a fire. While they aren’t a fire suppressant, they are used to help minimize the risks of injury and save lives. Detectors come in the form of smoke detectors, flame detectors, heat detectors, or gas detectors.
