  1. PRACTICING FLEXIBILITY & INNOVATION District 5890 Membership Seminar Rosemary Lengefeld

  2. LEARNING OBJECTIVES • At the end of this session, participants should be able to: • Develop strategies for making their club more flexible • Create a culture of innovation in their club

  3. ROTARY MEMBERSHIP • In parts of the world, Rotary continues to grow rapidly. In others, membership has been falling, and the average age of members is rising.

  4. INNOVATION & FLEXIBILITY FROM ROTARY INTERNATIONAL • Research shows that when clubs have more freedom on how they hold meetings, choose prospective members, and define engagement, they are more vibrant and able to grow. • The 2016 Council on Legislation approved changes that give clubs more flexibility in when, where, and how they meet, and what types of membership they offer. Consider reviewing your club’s bylaws based on changes such as: • Rotaractors may be members of Rotaract and a Rotary club at the same time. • Clubs may choose to gather in person, meet online, or alternate between the two.

  5. INNOVATION & FLEXIBILITY AT YOUR CLUB • Create a culture of innovation by gathering members to suggest ideas, trying new activities, and inviting speakers on innovation and its importance. • To be innovative, clubs should take risks, explore ideas without restrictions, and not be afraid of failure. • Use the Enhancing the Club Experience: Member Satisfaction Survey to learn what your members like and dislike about your club, then develop an action plan.

  6. IMAGINING THE FUTURE ACTIVITY • What would your ideal club look like if you could start a new one tomorrow? • What new activities would you try? • Which activities would you drop? • How would you vary the format of your meetings? • How often would your club meet? Would you meet in person, online, or both? • What day and time would you meet? • What types of membership would you offer?
