  2. Preliminary Points • Not just an act to engage in • If so, then any amount acceptable • Every relationship brings responsibility • Have joined ourselves together – Acts 9:26 • Have responsibility here that I do not have to any other local work

  3. In The Old Testament • Tithing – (“Giving a tenth part”) • Practiced before law given – Gen. 14:20 • Deut. 14:22,23 • Hebrews 7:5 • Exodus 36:3-7 • Recognized greatness of task – Ex. 35:4 • Were devoted to the work

  4. New Testament Teaching • Tithing not commanded • Mark 12:41-44 • Note: Least God ever required was tenth part and the most anyone gave was all. • 1 Corinthians 16:2 • 2 Corinthians 8:1-7; 9:6,7 • 2 Corinthians 8:5

  5. Summary of NT Teaching • On 1st day of the week • Response to need (Work of local church) • Greatest need – preach the gospel • According to ability – 2 Cor.8:12 • Planned – 2 Cor. 9:7 • Cheerfully – 2 Cor. 9:7 • Liberally – 2 Cor. 9:6

  6. What Must I Do To Be Saved? • Hear the gospel (Rom. 10:17) • Believe Jesus is Christ (Acts 8:37) • Repent of your sins (Luke 13:3) • Confess your faith (Mt. 10:32) • Baptized for remission of sins (Acts 2:38) • Walk by faith in newness of life (Rom. 6:4)
