Malta – fast facts In the heart of the Mediterranean lies the archipelago of the Republic of Malta Situated halfway between North Africa and Europe Consists of three islands (Malta, Gozo, Comino) making up 122 square miles Don’t let the small size fool you – Malta is one of the most densely populated countries worldwide (350,000 residents) Over 7,000 years of history Vacation destination for its relaxed lifestyle, the Mediterranean and the weather Mediterranean climate: dry, hot summers; warm, wet falls; short, cool winters Main languages are Maltese and English Euro is the currency

Getting to Malta Malta International Airport is in few hours flying time from many major European cities The national airline, Air Malta, has flights coming and going from Europe Take a ferry from another Mediterranean port to the island of Malta Check sites like Student Universe and STA Travel for deals exclusively for students

Getting around in Malta Malta has a public bus transport system of its own Take a “Smart Cab,” a battery-powered, chauffeur-driven vehicle that you hail Orient yourself by taking a vintage bus sightseeing tour, or an open-top sightseeing double-decker bus White taxi service available If you rent a car, international driver’s licenses are accepted, but remember in Malta they drive on the left side of the road!

MAUI Exchange Program Universities considered a part of the organization, Mid-American Universities International (MAUI), have partnered with the Utrecht Network: 31 European universities, to promote educational opportunities overseas Study opportunities for fall, winter and year-long programs Registration takes place once student arrives in Malta All courses taught in English besides foreign language courses A-F grading scale applies Teaching style: teacher/student contact, lectures, tutorials and a focus on independent study
