  1. Capital City Academy Green Pen Check

  2. Green Pen Checking What is it? All students are expected to check though their written work with a green pen. Encouraging students to focus on identifying and improving their literacy.

  3. What to check for? Spelling mistakes. Punctuation, Accuracy, Grammar. Clarity – How clear is your writing? Does it make sense when you read it back? Paragraphs – Show where they are meant to be if you forgot to put them in.

  4. Why use the green pen check? Students who check through their own work are showing teachers the skills that will take them to a higher level. For students to identify mistakes and make the appropriate corrections.

  5. Don’t forget to do your corrections.You can use your green pen to do this. e.g. Spelling: butiful beautiful x 3 beautiful beautiful beautiful

  6. Peer Marking Sometimes it is hard to see your own mistakes and it may be easier to check your friend’s work and they can check yours. You might be asked to check your partner’s answers. When peer marking, use your green pen to do this.

  7. The symbols teachers use for marking students work is below, students should be encouraged to use the same symbols when Green Pen Checking.

  8. Remember… Blue / Black – student. Red – teacher. Green pen – checking and redrafting.

  9. So…..in your exercise books. …..even in an mock exam or tests. …..for projects. …..green pen check your work! Remember, Green Pen Checking is for ALL subjects!
