  1. Solving A System of Equations Alejandra and Jesus December 18, 2013 5A

  2. Problem Situation • Maggie went to Frosty’s and bought fruit slushies for 75 cents each and conies for 1 dollar each. She spent a total of $12.75 and she bought 15 total items. How many fruit slushies did she buy?

  3. Define Variables • S is the number of slushies • C is the number of conies

  4. System of Equations • S + C = 15 • $0.75S + $1C = $12.75

  5. Solution Method Elimination

  6. Steps to Solve the System S + C = 15 0.75S + C = 12.75 • Subtract the equations 0.25S = 2.25 • Divide both sides by 0.25 S = 9

  7. Solution to the System of Equations • (( C, S) (6, 9)

  8. Check of Solution 9 + 6 = 15 0.75*9 + 1*6 = 12.75

  9. Solution in the Problem Situation • The number of slushies she bought was 9. • The number of conies she bought was 6.
