  4. Family Learning When?? • During the school day/after school/evening • Consult with parents/staff most suitable time slot • Discuss the possibility of having different events at different times

Family Learning Who will be involved in organising the event? • PSHE co-ordinator in consultation with SMT, PSAs, PTA Involvement of other personnel • PCSOs, school nurses, governors • Local press-good publicity for school, invite journalist into school, issue article/photographs • School press officer e.g. governor in charge of communications

  6. Family Learning Advertising the event • School newsletter, letter/note/invitation parents-written by pupil, reminder in school entrance/notice board/board outside school

  7. Family Learning Involvement of wider community • Older siblings/grandparents can be invited instead of/as well as parents

  8. Family Learning Organisation points for the event • Set up a task group -class teacher’s/support staff /parent helpers. Designate main person to co-ordinate event and delegate where possible • Preparatory work and planning/timetable • Different events for the various key stage/year groups • Daytime/ after school/evening sessions • Crèche -(compare costs of different providers) • Chairs, equipment, space, • Refreshments/snacks

  10. Family Learning Monitoring/evaluating the event • Short evaluation form for pre-post event • Comments collated on post its, clipboard graffiti wall, photographs, camcorder, • Incentive offered for completion of forms i.e. health related prize

  11. Family Learning Post Event • Certificate of attendance (sample enclosed) • Follow up work-discussion/floor book/worksheet/colouring in for instant recording • Acknowledgement of event in newsletter • Photographs/article in newspaper/newsletter, school webpage

  12. Family Learning Childcare ratios • 1 worker for 2 children under 1 • 1 worker for 3 children between 1 and 2 • 1 worker for 4 children between 2 and 3 • 1 worker for 6 children between 3 and 5 • 1 worker for 8 children over 5 years of age
