Detention Centers/Corrections Outdated, dilapidated inadequate facilities 7. Tribal Courts High costs and little or no increases to funding, decisions to arrest, prosecute, and detain will be based on financial restraints rather than the best interest of public safety.

Scholarships & Adult Vocational Training Inadequate funding doesn’t cover the needs in a downturned economy that is vital for obtaining employment at a living wage 8. Johnson O’Malley (JOM) Tribes decrease the number of opportunities it provides for its Tribal members to gain a better education and to improve livelihood for future generations

  6. Northwest Tribal Budget Prioritiesfor FY 2017 Human/Social Services: 9. Welfare (General) Assistance Strengthen families, prevention of domestic violence and child abuse 9. Indian Child Welfare Eradicating child abuse, neglect and the exploitation of children Tribal Youth Shelters. Absent any funding allocations, ability to maintain operations is uncertain

Economic Development • Most Tribes recognize that Tribally managed Economic Development as the path to true sovereignty. (self-determination)   • Infrastructure is the foundation to program development which creates businesses and jobs, and access to capital and resources for technical assistance and training.  The Economic Development programs need to be designed to enable and enhance these Tribal efforts.  • Tribal Credit programs helps tribes to be attain financial independence and strengthen and improve financial program services.  • These impacts the Tribes and the Non-Indian community.
