  3. Love for God’s name The 2nd Commandment God’s Name is like the name / number of 911.

  4. Look closely at the key pads: each number also has letters so someone can dial a number or a name! If my phone number is: 738-6453 I could tell people to reach me by dialing my name, Rev. Mike. 7 3 8 - 6 4 5 3 R e v - M i k e Names and numbers can be synonymous!

  5. Agree / Disagree: “When someone dials 911 he is using a name to get a vast array of help.” Agree / Disagree: “If someone wants emergency help, then he needs to know and believe that 911 is the name to call on.”

  6. Agree / Disagree: “Relying on the name or number of 722 is just as good as calling up 911.”

  7. To call on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ is similar to calling the number 911. Why?

  8. What kind of help does calling on 911 bring…?

  9. What is God’s name? All the help, power, salvation and teachings that God reveals to us about himself.

  10. What God’s people don’t want to do Do not use God’s name carelessly, uselessly or for evil purposes.

  11. What if a teacher taught her students that calling up 911 was “stupid”? What if the teacher claimed that getting help through 911 was a myth? Similarly, when someone misuses God’s name, he teaches others that God’s name is “stupid” and that God’s promised help is a “myth.”

  12. We do not want to damage the reputation of God’s name. Examples: 1. Curse (wish evil on someone) 2. Blaspheme (mock God) 3. Swear falsely (take an oath) 4. Superstitiously (trust in something other than God

  13. Explain: Why is God’s name also like our nation’s flag? 5. False teaching (changing the Bible) 6. Hypocrisy (pretending one thing while hiding the truth

  14. What does God want to see in his people? Turn to these passages in your Catechism book 1. Sincere prayer Cat 191) 2. Joyful praise and thanksgiving Cat 196)

  16. Why God’s children love to use God’s name rightly Cat 215) 1. God revealed his name to save us 2. Therefore we love him and his name. 3. We want others to love him.

  20. Natural Law Worship God! Time Line Sabbath specifics ended by Christ’s finished work. Must worship the 7th day (Sabbath day) and do no work!

  21. Col 2:13-17 ~ Christ forgave us our sins, having canceled the written code with its regulations…Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink or with regard to a Religious festival or a Sabbath day.

  22. Christ’s death removed the regulations of Mt. Sinai that required worship on the Sabbath day, so we revert back to the Natural Law: Worship God (any time)! Natural Law Worship God!

  30. Let’s Review how God’s commandments fit into our spiritual lives.

Gospel is the foundation of salvation!
