  11. Topic 2 – 40 Points QUESTION: What are the 8 types of shock and what causes them ANSWER: Hypovolemic- Due to blood lossRespiratory- Lungs are unable to supply enough oxygen for circulation. Could be due to trauma that causes pneumothorax or an injury to the breathing control mechanism in the brain. Neurogenic- Caused by general dilation of the blood vessels within the cardiovascular system. This makes the normal 6 liters of blood to be unable to supply the body.Psychogenic- Known as syncope shock. Caused by a temporary dilation of blood vessels that reduces normal amount of blood in the brain. Cardiogenic- Inability of the heart to supply enough blood to the body. Septic- Severe, usually bacteria, infection. Anaphylactic- is the result of a severe allergic reaction caused by food insects, drugs, dust, pollens ect. Metabolic- Caused by a severe illness, or extreme loss of body fluid. (Prentice 2011 pg 315-316)

Results in an increased flow in the fluid around these vibrating bubbles. Microstreaming- unidirectional movement of fluids along the boundaries of the cell membranes, resulting from the mechanical pressure wave in an ultrasonic field. Can alter the cell membrane structure and function because of changes in the cell membrane permeability to sodium and calcium ions which are important in the healing process. (Prentice 2009 pg 395)
