  2. What is an ‘Umbrella’ Topic? • umbrella topic – a major or ‘big’ idea that can cover many other topics, and smaller ideas when written or discussed. Umbrellas ‘cover’ things, thus why we call the ‘big ideas’umbrella topics or main ideas

  3. For Example…. UMBRELLA TOPIC • Technology & Social Networking • Online Dating • Chat Rooms • Online Bullying • Identity Theft • The Human Condition • Effects on Communication • Effects on Behavior SUPTOPICS

  4. Notice… • For every ‘subtopic’, people have different opinion on it. Thus, and ‘argument’ comes up. For example: Online Dating Yes, online dating is just as real as datingface to face. No, online dating is NOTas real as dating face to face. (ARGUMENT) (COUNTERARGUMENT)
