Educational Visits – The Aims • To increase pupils self-esteem • To help build positive relationships with peers • To learn to take risks in a controlled environment • To understand health and safety and the need for rules • To increase pupils self-confidence • To help find a positive and trusting relationship with an adult • To facilitate learning that does not appear to be in a classroom • To learn the value of taking part and co-operating http://www.voyagerpru.com/

  5. Types of Educational Visits • Sports Activities and Matches • Adventurous Activities • Swimming • Rural Studies • Cultural Visits • Field Studies • Farm Visits • Coastal Visits • Residential Visits in the UK and abroad • Foreign Exchange Visits • Adventure Activities in the UK and abroad

Pre-Visit Considerations • Make contact with activity supplier and check costs, availability, restrictions and obtain Risk Assessments. • Check staff availability (male/female) • Complete an Education Visits Form & book transport. • Issue letter explaining the visit purpose, where it is, costings and timings. Attach a Parental Consent Form & Medical Form as applicable. • Put together a Trip Pack that includes all required documentation (Off Site Register/Contact Details etc)

Pre-Visit Considerations • 2 days prior to visit – ring and confirm details • Prior to leaving educational establishment: • Collect and check all documentation (No form – No Go!) • Check all medical issues covered (Inhalers, tablets etc) • Check students are properly dressed/equipped etc • Trip Pack Completed and checked • Head count and travel rules briefed (seatbelts etc) • Depart!

Safety Considerations • Average Annual Fatality Rates in the UK (all ages) include: - All cancers: >120,000 - Heart attacks: 120,000 - Smoking related illnesses: 120,000 - Alcohol related illnesses: 25,000 - Suicides: 6500 - Class A drugs: 1000 - Road Traffic accidents: 3,500 - Trespassing on railway lines: 120 - Sun bathing (skin cancer): 1,400 - Accidents in the home: 4000 - Train Crashes or derailments: 8 - Total Accidental Deaths: 10,000 - Obesity and Unfitness: 30,000 - Adventure Activities on School Visits: 1

During the visit • The students will be excited, boisterous and nervous • Brief the students on expected behaviour • Carry out regular head counts • Talk to students and get feedback • Take photos (memories/PR/Coursework) • Supervise at all times • Ensure all students leave with all personal belongings • Head Count!!! • Depart from Venue

Post-Visit Considerations • Complete all Post Visit Documentation (Trip Report) • Complete feedback forms (if applicable) • Write a letter of thanks (if applicable) • Write press release (if applicable) • Post photos on Intranet for students to access • Review activity with students (using photos)
