  2. Genre Prison break is an American TV directed by Paul Scheuring drama. The season featured 8 seasons which 1st episode was in 2005. Prison break falls under the category falls in the category of a action packed/crime thriller.

  3. Codes and conventions Throughout the series we witness a range of effective codes and conventions. For example in this still shot the camera is placed in front of the car – this way we can see the expression on Sara and Michaels face. Michaels hand is placed on Sara’s seat; given with the expression he has on his face, he is almost leaving the fate of his life with Sara. The light is mostly emphasised on Sara’s face, this represents her ‘hero-like’ stature. Michael on the other hand is in a darker shade which possibly represents his deviance. • Crime • Violence • Prison • Death row • Conspiracy • Gang

  4. Representation of characters Robert Knepper is playing the character Theodore “T-bag” Bagwell. He is represented as by far one of the most sadistic, manipulative main characters throughout the series. Bagwells father molested him at a young age, which possibly is the reason for his consistent wrong doings – his father is also responsible for sexually assaulting his handicap sister. His deep, overpowering voice strengthens his overall presence in the programme. However without speaking his presence alone can change the entire mood of the scene, for example Michael could be speaking to his brother Lincoln the camera will pan over and suddenly the music will change.

  5. Camera angles The camera angles play a huge role within each scene, it allows the audience to witness different aspects within the scene. In this scene we see Sara being held hostage by T-bag, note how the camera angle is positioned so that we can see both the expressions of the characters in this scene.

  6. Miseen scene • Mise en scene consists of: • Settings/props – The majority of scenes, the characters tend to use props such as cars, mobile phones, guns, bombs etc. This emphasizes the current situation within that scene. • Costume – characters that play doctors, police officers, prisoners will have costumes to wear – this helps the audience identify each character role. • Lighting/colour – For example in this picture • here we see the lighting is slightly darker where • Lincoln is grabbing hold of the company boss. • Facial expressions – Facial expressions are • key in every scene of an episode – for example • if the character is angry/agitated, the character • may frown or have a dirty look on their face in order • to strengthen the mood of that scene.
