Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Overview FIELD INTERNSHIP DUTIES: • Conduct full range of computer forensics activities • Participate on scene at search warrants for triaging and/or previewing of suspect media for use by investigators/interviewers. • Prepare detailed written reports outlining forensic findings for investigators/prosecutors • CERTIFICATIONS/TRAINING RECEIVED: • 3 weeks - Training at Oak Ridge National Lab • 7 weeks - Computer Forensics/Child Exploitation • Investigation training at HSI C3 • * ComptiaA+ Certification • * EnCaseComputer Forensic I training • * AccessDataBootCamp training • 10-month (unpaid) - Field Training Internship • within HSI field offices

Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Successes & Challenges • Program Successes: • Support by ICE Senior Leadership and HSI Field Office personnel • HERO’s provided marketable/transferable computer forensic skills • Employment Opportunity for 100% of HEROs completing inaugural program • Interest by Federal, State and Local Agencies to hire future graduates • Program Challenges: • Unpaid internship (keeps some applicants away) • Funding for only 1 class a year • Support of the HERO once in the field (financial, health, home) • Meeting the increased interest in hiring

Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) 2014 - HERO Class • January/February 2014--: Recruitment by SOCOM for 2nd HERO Class • April 2014----------------: Computer screening test / Interviews • May 2014-----------------: Top Secret Clearance process • August 2014--------------: ORNL Training • September/October 2014: 7 Weeks Computer Forensic Training at HSI C3 • October 2014 – July 31, 2015: Internship within HSI field offices • August 2015 ---------------: HEROs ready for Employment
