Coalition Changes Public Bodies (Reform) Bill • New powers to abolish quango’s – Oct. 2010 announcement (190+ to go, 53 in DEFRA alone) • Reducing the cost of bureaucracy: anticipated year on year savings of £1 billion (?!) • To review the functions of all public bodies every three years, as opposed to the current practice of every 5 years

Coalition Changes Third Sector • “The role of social enterprises, charities and co-operatives in our public services will be enhanced’’ • Where appropriate, public services markets will be opened up to allow social enterprise, charities and co-operatives to bid to run public services.  Barriers to involvement will be identified and measures will be implemented

Coalition Changes The Budget - June 2010 • The Government will increase the standard rate of landfill tax by £8 per tonne on 1 April 2011 until at least 2014, and introduce a floor so that that the rate will not fall below £80 per tonne until at least 2020 • £1.4Bn Regional Growth Fund announced (over 3 yrs)

  21. and so, the future… • Is it going to get worse before it gets better? • Will the RGF and LEP’s be the answer ? • Will WRAP be the main hope for business support? • Business Enterprise Group - will they have funds? • Waste Policy, DEFRA, DCLG
