  7. Source B From a school textbook published in 1993. When war broke out the government had most of Britain on its side. The government put out lots of propaganda to make sure people continued to support it. The newspapers, which were the main source of information for most people were in favour of the war in any case. When the government asked for 100,000 volunteer soldiers the response was far better than anyone expected – 750,000 men joined the army in one month. G. 10. Select five sources. Explain how useful these sources have been in informing you in your enquiry into the changing and different attitudes towards war in World War 1. • You will have (up to) 1 hour 30 minutes to answer this question. • You need to find three further sources. • Try to find 1 poster and 1 piece of primary written evidence – for example a letter, a diary entry, a poem, a song, newspaper account. • Your final source is up to you. However, remember that it is important to choose a source for which you know the provenance and which you feel confident in assessing the utility of. • You must make sure that your collection of sources shows variety – in type, opinion and topic coverage. • Make sure that you note down who and where the source is from, its date of publication and the name of the publisher. If it is from a website include the URL and the name of the website/ organisation that produced it.
