  2. ABEC • Founded in 1985; • Stimulated and supported by Wilson Chagas Araújo Microbiologist/Science Administrator of FINEP. Chagas understood that journals were necessary for the development of science in developing countries; • Program for the Support of Scientific Journals – FINEP/CNPq 1984 to present US$ 1,000,000/year for 100-150 journals • Representatives of ABEC participate with CNPq and others in the analysis of requests.

ABEC • Objectives • Develop and improve the publication of scientific journals. • Improve the communication of information. • Maintain the exchange of ideas. • Debate problems and defend common interests. • Note: All areas of intellectual activity are included in the phrase scientific journals.

  4. ABEC National Meetings 1. General topics and ideas - evaluation of journals, electronic journals, ethics of publishing, impact factors. 2. Governmental policies concerning science and scientific journals. 3. Journal format. 4. Meetings of small groups by area.
