District-Wide Issues Maintenance: Roofing, HVAC, flooring, paint, windows/doors, etc. Modernization: replacing, renovating or remodeling old/outdated facilities Capacity: building new space, expanding existing spaces replacing portables, etc. Average district building is 34 years old, 41 years weighted by square footage

  6. Growth • Growth of 1,700+ students in the past 3 years • 16 of 20 elementary schools at or above 95% capacity • 12 of those 16 • elementary schools • are over 100% • capacity • 6000+ students in • 300+ portables

Facilities Goals • Ensuring core and classroom facilities are adequate for the number of children projected in our schools • Replace portables with permanent classrooms • Modernize facilities to provide optimal learning environment (i.e. technology infrastructure, science labs, renovated classrooms, comfort, safety, etc.) • Ensuring that we “catch up” and are in a position to maintain all facilities on a regularly-scheduled basis

Sales Tax Referendum ½ cent sales tax for 12 years will be placed on 2018 general election ballot Allrevenue generated will stay in Alachua County Half penny generates approximately $19.9 million a year Approximately 25%-35% a year paid by out-of-county visitors Creates hundreds of local, private sector jobs Half-cent tax not charged on food, medicine, other exempted items

Sales Tax Referendum Limited to the first $5,000 for large purchases, meaning the maximum tax on any single item is $25 Proceeds may be used to fund new school construction, renovation of current schools, safety and security improvements, land acquisition or improvements, servicing debt, and technology upgrades Independent citizens’ oversight committee would review expenditures from ½ cent revenues
