  3. SCHEDULING DO NOT put a request in to see your counselor at this time. Counselors will meet with students individually during the week of February 3rd through the Social Studies Class .

  4. Graduation Requirements Language Arts 4 ½ units Mathematics 4 units Science 3 units Social Studies 3 units Health ½ unit Physical Education ½ unit Electives 5 ½ units

  5. STUDENTFOUR YEAR PLAN 2014-Beyond Four Year Plan

  6. CLASS STANDING AND PROMOTION Sophomore 10th grade 5 credits or units Junior 11th grade 10 credits or units Senior 12th grade 15 credits or units

  7. COLLEGE PREPARATORY PROGRAM 4 units of Language Arts 3 units of Mathematics/Algebra I, II, Geometry 3 units of Science/Must include 2 units from among Biology, Chemistry, Physics 3 units of Social Studies/including 2 units of History and ½ of Government 3 units of World (Foreign) Language 1 unit of Fine Arts

  8. FINE ARTS CREDIT • Art Department: Any Art class • English Department: Acting • Film Literacy • Mass Media Introduction to Theatre • Music Department: Any Choir, Band, Orchestra Music Appreciation, Music Theory History

  9. Visiting with College Representatives • JUNIORS will have the opportunity to meet with college representatives that visit Brunswick H.S. to learn more about what individual schools have to offer. • More information will be given at the beginning of the 2014-2015 school year.

  10. OHIO GRADUATION TESTS (OGT) Students MUST pass the Ohio Graduation Test

HONORS DIPLOMA CRITERIA(Must Meet Seven of the Eight) • Four units of English • Four units of Mathematics at least Algebra I, Algebra II, and Geometry and another higher level course or a four-year sequence of courses that contain equivalent content • Four units of Science including Physics and Chemistry • Four units of Social Studies • Three units of one World (Foreign) Language or two units each of two • World (Foreign) Languages • One unit Fine Arts • Maintain a cumulative GPA of a 3.5 on an unweighted grading scale • Obtain a composite score of 27 on the ACT or an equivalent composite score on the 1210 SAT

  12. PUPIL LOAD Minimum pupil load is classes per semester not including summer school

  13. ACADEMIC ELIGIBILITYATHLETIC/CO-CURRICULAR/EXTRA-CURRICULAR Students must have received passing grades in a minimum of five one-credit courses or the equivalent. Ninth grade students must maintain a GPA of a 1.8 Tenth-twelfth grades must maintain a GPA of a 2.0 All requirements must be made in the grading period immediately preceding

NATIONAL COLLEGE ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION www.eligibilitycenter.org College-bound student athletes must register with the NCAA if hoping to play sports at a Division I or Division II school Registering can be done on-line. www.eligibilitycenter.org Transcripts are required to complete application

  15. Any student interested in the MCCC should: Turn in MCCC application to Guidance Office Circle 969 on their Course Selection Sheet Do NOT select BHS courses Turn in Course Selection Sheet to Language Arts Teacher

  16. POST-SECONDARY ENROLLMENT OPTIONS Any student interested in the PSEO Program must circle 000008 on their Course Selection Sheet. Students must also attend a MANDATORY meeting with their parents on: February 20, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center.

  17. SUMMER SCHOOL DATES FIRST SESSION June 4th– June 20th SECOND SESSION June 23rd– July 11th ( no class on July 3rd & 4th) Summer school meets from 7:45 a.m. – 12:25 p.m. Summer School Registrations will be available no later than Mid-March

  18. PHYSICAL EDUCATION EXEMPTION There is a policy that permits students to be exempt from PE if they participate in a sport, cheerleading, dance, or marching band.

  19. PHYSICAL EDUCATION EXEMPTION Students cannot do a combination of PE exemption and physical education course.

  20. EARLY GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS Students interested in early graduation must apply in writing to the principal and counselor one year prior to the graduation date.

  21. DROPPING A SUBJECT A student may withdraw from a course within the first two weeks without penalty, providing the student’s course load does not fall below five credits for that year. If a course is dropped after the first two weeks, a grade of a “F” will be recorded.

  22. SCHEDULE CHANGE POLICY Schedule changes may be considered for the following reasons: Change necessitated by physical health of a student Completion of course in Summer School Changes necessitated by failures Mechanical error changes Subject-level changes Classroom balancing

  23. ADVANCED PLACEMENT HONORS COURSES Check the registration policy for each subject with your current teachers. Language Arts - Signature on Course Selection Form Math – Signature on Course Selection Form Science - Signature on Course Selection Form Social Studies – Signature on Course Selection Form AP Courses – Exam Required. Fee for Exam.

  24. DEADLINES Complete the Online Registration. Course Selection Sheets are due in: February – bring with you when meeting with the counselor.
