The New York Times Index • Contains citations for news items; feature articles; editorials; editorial cartoons; obituaries; commentaries; sports articles; business and financial news; and reviews of books, art exhibitions, dance, movies, music, restaurants, theater, and television programs. • Abstracts "significant news, editorial matter and special features." • Covers the weekday and weekend papers as well as the City, New Jersey, Long Island, Westchester, and Connecticut regional sections. • Classed in one list by subject, geography, organization, or personal name. Arranged alphabetically and then chronologically under each heading. Contains headings, subheadings, and secondary subheadings. • "Entries of unusual interest are set in boldface type."

  4. The New York Times Index • The index is published semi-monthly, with quarterly cumulating and an annual cumulating. • Hint! Articles pertaining to relations between two or more countries will always be "put under the name of the smaller country (or the one least often in the news)." • The years this index covers are 1851-present.

They are shelved by title along side the other newspapers. • Older issues (back to the year 1851) are available on Microfilm. The microfilm issues are located in the Microform Room also shelved by title. It covers nonfiction, fiction, poems, short stories, and reviews of ballet, books, compact discs, dance, motion pictures, musicals, operas and operettas, phonograph records, products, radio programs, tape recordings, television programs, theater, videodiscs and videotapes. • You can search by subject or author in a combined list. • Book reviews are listed separately at the back of each volume. Reviews are arranged alphabetically by author. • This index includes a list of periodicals indexed in each volume. • Published annually. • Coverage Years are 1890 – Current.
