  8. This is the Bible. It has stories of how much God loves us and helps us. As we learn to see God in these stories we can learn to see God in our lives. “We are bringing in the Word of God”

  9. This is the light, reminding us that Jesus is the light of the world. Showing us that God wants us to love each other like Jesus loves us. “We are bringing in the Light of God”

  10. This is the offering plate, reminding us that God wants us to share; Reminding us of the many treasures that God has given us, and that when we share we make everything so much better for everyone. “We are bringing in the Gifts of God”

  11. One: The disciples invited a stranger to dinner and they learned that… All: Jesus surprises us! One: The disciples thought that Jesus was dead but they learned that… All: Jesus surprises us! One: Our lives are better because… All: Jesus surprises us!

We Tell God We Are Sorry Gracious God, We confess that often we are like the two people who were on the road to Emmaus; people who were frightened and confused, and who just wanted to get home where they could feel safe. Like them we are sure that Jesus has left us though we've heard that he hasn't.

  14. Help us to be like our friends of long ago, who listened to their new friend that they met along the way and were surprised by Jesus. Help us to keep our eyes open so that we see Jesus as he surprises us in the kindness and encouragement of friends and those who love us. Help us to see Jesus in our lives, and to be like our friends of long ago who ran to tell their friends that Jesus had surprised them. In Jesus name we pray,

  15. Thank you, Lord, for saving my soul. Thank you, Lord, for making me whole. Thank you, Lord, for giving to me Your great salvation so rich and free.

  16. We Listen to God Based on Luke 24:13-31

  17. Where were Cleopas and Esther going? Why were they going there? Who did they meet along the way? Did they recognize him? What did Jesus talk to them about? What did they do when they got to Emmaus? What happened then? Did Jesus surprise them? Have you ever had anyone surprise you? How? Has Jesus ever surprised you? How? Tell your neighbor, “Jesus surprises us.”
