  5. HOW TO CLEAN UP BROKEN GLASS • Notify Teacher • Do not attempt to clean up with your bare hands • Move others away from the area • Obtain supplies to clean up broken glass • Broom • Dust pan

  6. RACE • Acronym for steps to take in a fire • R: Rescue • A: Activate alarm • C: Contain • E: Extinguish

  7. Using a Fire Extinguisher

  8. Types of Fire Extinguishers • Type A – extinguishers are for ordinary combustible materials such as paper, wood, cardboard, and most plastics. The numerical rating on these types of extinguishers indicates the amount of water it holds and the amount of fire it can extinguish. Geometric symbol (green triangle)

  9. Type B • fires involve flammable or combustible liquids such as gasoline, kerosene, grease and oil. The numerical rating for class B extinguishers indicates the approximate number of square feet of fire it can extinguish. Geometric symbol (red square)

  10. Type C • fires involve electrical equipment, such as appliances, wiring, circuit breakers and outlets. Never use water to extinguish class C fires - the risk of electrical shock is far too great! Class C extinguishers do not have a numerical rating. The C classification means the extinguishing agent is non-conductive. Geometric symbol (blue circle)

  11. Type ABC (Most Common) • ABC - This is the multipurpose dry chemical extinguisher. The ABC type is filled with monoammonium phosphate, a yellow powder that leaves a sticky residue that may be damaging to electrical appliances such as a computer

  17. OUCH! I CUT MYSELF • IMMEDIATELY APPLY PRESSURE • WASH CUT WITH SOAP AND WATER • ANTIBACTERIAL OINTMENT • BANDAGE • NOTIFY TEACHER

  18. ACCIDENTS What is the #1 cause of injury in the classroom? HORSEPLAY Most school accidents are caused by not following the safety rules. **Report all injuries ASAP to the teacher!!

  19. Some Common Causes of Falls Slipping on Wet Floors Tripping over desk/file drawers Using a chair to reach something above your head

  20. PPE’s (Personal Protective Equipment) PPE’s should be worn before you enter the work area and before working! IF you are hurt (cut, burned, etc …) TELL YOUR TEACHER IMMEDIATELY Don’t handle BLOOD or BODY FLUIDS without proper training and PPE’s. Infectious diseases such as AIDS and Hepatitis are for real!!!

  21. BODY MECHANICS Always keep your back straight and bend at the knees, when lifting a heavy object.

Dangerous Situations • If you see a dangerous situation, report it immediately to the teacher/supervisor • Frayed or damaged electrical cords • May cause electrical shock, fire, or a short circuit • Spills on the floor • Any injury (major or minor) • Faulty equipment • Don’t operate equipment unless you have been instructed how to use it

  23. Chemicals • Always label chemicals when dispensed to another container • Spills (of any nature) on the floor should always be cleaned up at once POISON

  24. What should not be tolerated in the classroom?? • Harassment • Verbal Abuse • Threatening behavior • Disrespect
