  1. Chemical Mixture Method (CMM)Health Code Number (HCN)Update Xiao-Ying Yu, PNNL Rocky Petrocchi, ATL

  2. CMM Rev 25—Status • CMM Workbook “Rev 25” published in October 2009 • CMM Rev 25 contains the PAC/TEEL data published in PAC Rev 25 • CMM and PAC data sets are “consistent”

  3. CMM Rev 26 — Status • CMM Workbook“Rev 26” • Will include HCNs for 6 new chemicals • Will include updated HCNs for 1040 chemicals • Will include new/revised PAC/TEEL data • Will be posted on SCAPA website shortly after PAC Rev 26 is published

  4. HCN Update Status • Update HCNs for “Older” Chemicals • ~ 2346 chemicals required review and updates • The multi-year effort started since June 2009 • ~1040 (44%) chemicals updated to date • 162 (15%) chemicals need QA • 28 (18%) chemicals done to date

  5. 2010 HCN Update Project Team • New Summer Intern, Hua He (WSU/MS), starts in June 2010 • Kim Schuette (WSU/graduating senior), starts in June 2010, fully supported by NSF/DOE STAR program • Donna Trott (PNNL) will provide training to the interns • Xiao-Ying Yu (PNNL) will provide mentorship and supervise their progress • Rocky Petrocchi (ATL) will provide technical leadership and manage QA

  6. 2010 HCN Update Goals • Update as many of the remainder of chemicals (~1300) as possible by December, 2010 • Perform detailed QA review of 10% - 15% of updated chemicals • Incorporate this round of updates in CMM Rev 27 (May 2011?)

  7. CMM Research Article • Scope • Reviews purpose and principle of CMM • Presents CMM updates since the publication of Craig et al. in 1999 • Focuses on advances in HCN development • Illustrates CMM real-worldapplication • Targeted Journal • Journal of Applied Toxicology • Status • Submitted in April 2010 EMI-SIG / SCAPA 2009

  8. Surrogate Source Term Article • Scope • Introduce surrogate source term method as an interim method for real-time application of CMM • Candidate Journals • Journal of Applied Toxicology • Atmospheric Environment • Project Status • First draft finished in Nov. 2009 • Revisions being discussed between lead authors John Ciolek and Xiao-Ying Yu • Targeted for journal submission by end of FY 2010

  9. The CMM Online Wizard • Goal: Explore a tool for on-line usage of CMM • Features: • Breaks free of Excel Workbook constraints • Uses an Access database • Employs a user-friendly design • Accepts any number of chemicals in a mixture • Provides same output tables as the Excel workbook • Analogous to the on-line PAC data base • Currently available on the PNNL server for testing: http://nycmetdev.pnl.gov/cmm/cmm_database.asp • Check it out later today -- we want feedback!

  10. The CMM Wizard Illustration Front page, choose how to enter your chemicals Let’s try the first option.

  11. Select chemicals by CASRN, chemical name or SAX number hydrogen chloride 7647-01-0 Hit add to select

  12. Enter concentration at the receptor point

  13. Choose the concentration limit

  14. Results: Summary of HIs Choose HIs by Mode or by Target Organ

  15. HIs by Mode

  16. HIs by Target Organ

  17. Some CMM Users & Uses • Hanford: Tank Farm Emissions Analysis • SRS: EPHA, Safety Analysis, Waste Analysis • Sandia (NM): ER Modeling • INL: EPHA Analysis • Y-12: EPHA Analysis • Others: LLNL, LANL, Jefferson Lab (DOE), NOAA Hazmat, Univ. of Florida
