  2. Phase 1:The Joy of Programming • Hacking a More Tasteful MySpace • Only shows you how to hack your layout to be able to customize it to your liking more. • It’s not really harming anyone, it’s just making your page more “you”.

Phase 2:From the 1970s to the Mid-1990s • Radio Contest Winners: (3 Culprits) • Charged with conspiring to rig a radio phone-in competition to win prizes. • Seized control of phone lines to the radio station ensuring only their calls got through. • Allegedly won 2 Porsches, $20,000 in cash and holidays in Hawaii.

  4. Phase 3:The Web Era • The ILOVEYOU Virus: • In May, the ILOVEYOU virus is unleashed and clogs computers worldwide. • Over the coming months, variants of the virus are released that manage to catch out companies that didn't do enough to protect themselves.

  5. “Hacktivism” • Hacking for a political purpose. • Is on the rise since the internet population is growing, so the activists actually use this medium to spread their message quicker to a broader population.

  6. Punishment • Most maximum prison sentences handed down for hacking will range from one to ten years. • 25% increase in sentences if they steal personal information • 50% increase if shared. • Double sentences if the info is posted on the internet or the culprit break into government, military, or computers tied into the power or telecommunications grids .
