  1. Continuous Plankton Recorder sampling Sonia Batten • A ship of opportunity program, begun in 2000, to sample lower trophic levels. • Transect ran PWS to California, 2000-03 then Puget Sound to Anchorage, 2004 onwards

The CPR samples at about 7 m depth (mixed surface layer), each sample represents 18.5 km (10 nm) • Large phytoplankton (semi-quantitatively) and robust mesozooplankton are identified and counted (about 360 taxa in all). • All shelf samples are processed, every 4th oceanic sample.
