  1. Welcome to our We Choose to REUSE fashion show!

  2. You can recycle clothes many different ways. One way is by handing down the clothes you outgrow to your younger family members or friends.

  3. The clothes you give to your younger friends and family members are often called hand-me-downs!

  4. Hand-me-downs are super cool to wear…AND theysave you money by not having to buy new clothes!

  5. Handing down clothes to your younger friends and family members also saves the environment because the clothes go to someone else and not into the landfill!

  6. Landfill fact… It takes hundreds of years for fabric in clothing to break down, depending on the material. Clothing accounts for about 7% of the waste in landfills.

  7. If you do not have anyone to hand down to your clothes to…there are other things you can do with the clothes you no longer need…you can DONATE them!

  8. Think about donating clothes to local consignment shops whose profits go to a good cause – like to help people in our own community!

  9. Two stores near us that are great places to donate the clothes you do not need anymore are the Salvation Army and the Savers stores.

  10. Today we are proud to have special representatives from the Salvation Army and Savers. They will be sharing a few words with us and telling us about their stores.

  11. The representative from the Salvation Army will be speaking after Miss Sica’s Class Fashion Show and the representatives from Savers will be speaking after Mrs. Mashiotta’s Class Fashion Show a little later this afternoon.

  12. We know all about recycling our plastic bottles, paper, and cans – but remember you can recycle your clothes too by DONATING!

  13. You should check out your local Salvation Army and Savers stores and see all the fashionable clothes they sell! They sell brand name clothes – such as Abercrombie and Gap – and really cool sports jerseys and sweatshirts too – and very unique clothing items too!

  14. It is a WIN, WIN, WIN situation!Why?Because…#1 You get fashionable clothes at a GREAT price.

  15. #2 You help people in need in our own community!

  16. #3 You help keep clothes OUT of the landfills!

  17. So we want you to know that it is more than cool to wear hand me downs, and to shop at the Salvation Army or Savers type stores, and to donate clothes you outgrow – it is the GREEN thing to do!

  18. So save money, help the environment, help people in our community, and look cool with us TODAY…choose to reuse!

  19. So now it is time to sit back and enjoy Miss Sica’s Class’We Choose to Reuse Fashion Show

  20. Every year nearly 900,000,000 trees are cut down to create things like paper.

  21. When wool and cotton clothes end up in a landfill and decompose they produce methane gas which can lead to global warming.

  22. Today, almost 22% of the glass produced in the United States is recycled.

  23. If every American recycled even ONE-TENTH of their paper we could save about 25 million trees each year.

  24. Did you know that it takes 80-100 years for an aluminum can to decompose (breakdown) in a landfill?

  25. It takes more than 1.5 million barrels of oil to produce a years supply of water bottles. That is enough oil to fuel 100,000 cars.

  26. Did you know that Americans throw out more than 68 POUNDS of clothing a year?!

  27. Keep it up! By 2010 paper recycling increased to over 89% since 1990.

  28. Running your faucet for 5 minutes uses up the amount of energy required to run a 60 watt light bulb for 14 hours.

  29. One tree can filter up to 60 pounds of pollutants from the air.

  30. Did you know that recycling just ONE aluminum can could save up enough energy to power a television for TWO HOURS?

  31. If each American donated clothing instead of throwing it out, 2.5 billion pounds of fabric could be kept from landfills.

  32. It takes between 400 and 500 years for a Styrofoam cup to decompose. It takes an orange peel six months. Pause while Braedyn reads fact

  33. Currently, 85% of fabrics are still being sent to landfills rather than being recycled or reused.

  34. Recycling clothing can create more jobs at charity organizations, consignment stores, and businesses that reuse fabrics.

  35. Old t-shirts can be turned into new items; like pillows, blankets, bags, scarves, and other accessories.

  36. 1 ton of RECYCLED paper saves 7,000 gallons of water, between 17 and 31 trees and 60 pounds of air pollutants.

  37. Did you know that recycled paper can be turned into yarn which can be used to make sweaters and scarves?

  38. The US dollar is made of 80% recycled cotton. You are spending your old jeans!
