  4. Moodle Tools & Support

  5. Why Moodle At Ortega? • Fill Instructional Gaps while supporting meaningful, authentic learning opportunities for allof our students. • It’s free! We can host it on our District website and link it to our school’s homepage. • Perkin’s Grant funding can assist our staff with training (Release time for substitute teachers & conference costs) • Cal State LA’s “Moodle in a Day” Workshops

  6. What Are The Gaps Here? • Poor student attendance due to illness, work, family transportation conflicts, and other personal issues. • Teacher-Student-Family conflicts that impact course success and/or graduation. • Course sequencing conflicts and courses not offered that restrict college entrance.

  7. Piloted Through Pathways • Academic Year 2012-2013 technology courses at Ortega High School (Entrepreneurship Pathway) • Business Computers • Accounting • Career Education • MS Office Specialist • Virtual Enterprise

  8. Health Class Offering • Currently we have a high failure rate due to absences, lack of homework participation, and quiz/test scores. • Moodle online quizzes and tests can be taken online with supporting tools to increase student success. • The following link provides ideas for modifying quizzes/testing in Moodle: http://docs.moodle.org/dev/Tests/Quiz

  10. VE Using Moodle At YEP This year our Virtual Enterprise Team used Moodle when they prepared for the YEP business plan presentation during the Quarter Two. It was an effective way to expose each student to the various components on a professional business plan at their own pace.

  11. VE Business & Moodle Check out our students winning 3rd Place and $300...they were also invited to UCLA to participate in the ECHO business competition in March.

  12. Potential Problems • District Restrictions • Compatibility Concerns • Lack of Student Access and/or Participation • Moodle Website Issues • Staff Resistance to Change

  13. Potential Positives • Increase Student Success On Quizzes and Tests for All Student, Including Our Various Sub-groups • Increased Offerings That Will Allow Some Students Access To The University Rather Than Community College Only • WASC revisit and Model Continuation Next School Year.

  14. Questions?? • What concerns do you have with using Moodle at Ortega High School?
