How Do You Meet With Your Counselor? • Parents: Call /email the Guidance Office to make an appointment • Students: Come before school/during lunch/fill out appointment request form. • Remember, Ms. Tattoli is also available in the College and Career Center! • Students--Best practice: Meet with your counselor at least twice this year, and during senior year as needed!

  9. What about Diploma Designations? Scholar and Merit Diploma Designations are now available per SB 1076. Scholar Designation: • Students must pass EOCs with a Level 3 or higher. • Students must take coursework designated by SB 1076 Merit Designation: • Students must receive industry certification to receive this designation

Level 3 (Scale Score of 245 or higher) to pass or • ACT Reading -- 19 concordant score or • SAT --Critical Reading-- 430. • Algebra 1 EOC Retakes in December and May. In a word… yes. • ACT/SAT college admissions tests– take in Spring of Junior year; may also take for concordant FCAT Read 2.0 score • Take ACT with writing if applying to 4-year universities • PERT– This spring, students with FCAT Reading 2 or 3 or Alg I EOC 2, 3, 4 will take the PERT. • PSAT will be administered October 15thfor juniors with 3.0 weighted GPA.

  23. How to Earn College Credit While Attending SCHS DE/AP Night is 2/3/15! Advanced Placement 9th– AP Human Geography 10th– AP World History 11th– AP U.S. History And more… Students must take AP Exam and earn a 3 to earn college credit. Credit does not count towards college GPA. Dual Enrollment Students must have a 3.0 GPA and college-ready test scores by end of 10th grade to apply. (May also apply in 11th grade.) Courses currently offered at SCHS are Freshman Comp I and II, U.S. Gov’t, and New Student Experience. Students may also take classes at Valencia either full-time or part time Books are included DE begins college GPA. AP Central

  24. What To Do NOW? • October 7– Attend Valencia’s College Night as a family and talk with university admissions reps about their schools • October 15– Be ready for PSAT! Knock it out of the park and use My College Quickstart to help you prepare for the SAT! • Start planning your options as a family. Big Future from College Board is a great resource for this. • Begin your campus visits– they make great day trips on the weekend! Also, students get up to 3 excused absences for college visits. (Of course, no matter what course of action is planned, keeping grades up is a MUST!)

  25. What to Do in the Spring? • PERT @SCHS for students registering for fall semester Dual Enrollment classes (must have a 3.0 GPA & Valencia application on file) • Register to take the SAT &/or ACT • Meet with your counselor to review your options for senior year • Sign up for an FLVS class to make up credits or raise GPA – Impact Lab may be an option during summer. • Arrange for college visits over spring break or summer vacation • Narrow your college choices to 5 • Do research on scholarships (SCHS Counseling Connection)
