Regional FET Conference Skills Shortage in SA: The current Status. • SNF ESDLE Project 2004: R25 million for 1000 learnerships. 64% pass. • OGCM ASTP 2006: R45 million funding from National Skills Fund, R15 million from CHIETA R140 million from Sasol. (4357 learnerships) • August 2007 R100 million application submitted to CHIETA/NSF. (2922 learnerships) • 882 learners in training. 97% retention. • Set to produce 1400 qualified artisans by the end of 2010. (2400 if R100 million approved)

Regional FET Conference Creating the Road Ahead. • Central to the partnerships is broad agreement on the curriculum / skills programmes to be offered • Parties bring different strengths to the partnership • Examples of industry contribution: support for lecturers, bursaries, workplace training, job opportunities, recruitment and assessment of students, examination and moderation of lecturer and student work, equipment and infrastructure
