  2. LGA Waste Committee • Formed in November 2002 following extensive consultation with all SA Councils. • Objective is to facilitate a coordinated and unified approach to waste issues by Local Government.

  3. LGA Waste Committee (cont.) Five Terms of Reference • 1. Provide strategic advice to the LGA State Executive Committee to enable a coordinated approach on waste issues; • 2. Seek to establish a long term (formal) agreement between State and Local Government on waste issues to ensure roles, responsibilities and resource implications are clear with particular reference to the differing roles of the EPA as a regulator and the proposed new Zero Waste SA as a facilitator;

  4. Terms of Reference • 3. Coordinate constructive Local Government input to guide the development and implementation of proposed legislative and strategic framework reform with regard to waste and resource management, including the Zero Waste SA Bill, and the proposed State Waste Strategy and Environment Protection (Waste) Policy; • 4. Facilitate the investigation of new technological opportunities and the sharing of knowledge and expertise within Local Government;

  5. LGA Waste Committee (cont.) • 5. Have regard to the particular and differing needs of metropolitan and country Councils and assist them in pursuing continuous improvement and the best way forward with regard to waste and resource management.
