Developing your PPG/PRG – what we are doing • Have a section on the practice web site to include • Information about the PPG and an application form • N.A.P.P newsletters • Our PPG newsletters • Other healthcare information – without jargon or acronyms • Develop a Patient Information Centre • Continually develop contacts with local Community Groups • Develop a local network of PPGs – by meetings or virtually • Host ‘Expert Patient’ sessions • Have strong support from the GPs and the Practice Manager • Recognise that the world is changing and work together with local public and patient engagement groups.

  5. What should N.A.P.P. BE DOING? • Open a Facebook account - to communicate with the world at large • Create a Facebook Page • Pages are visible to everyone (e.g. by a Google search, even if the viewer does not have a Facebook account) • Set up a Wall (for communicating information about N.A.P.P to the world at large) linked to the Page • Five tips for non-profit organisations • Be accessible; Tell stories; Focus on impact; Solicit broad participation; Empower core supporters (from ‘The Facebook Era’ by Clara Shih, 2011, 2nd Edition, Prentice Hall, 350pp) • Needs on-going management and initial IT skills (time) and will be a mix of current information, standard material/information about N.A.P.P • Advertise the N.A.P.P website, workshops, Newsletters, projects and Annual Conference etc. • Have a policy for colleagues on accepting clients, potential clients and colleagues

  7. and then what? • Open a twitter account • This is only for communication with the membership, between the membership and other persons or organisations agreed by the staff and Trustees. • Use the N.A.P.P logo as the Avatar. • This is not a twitter account to discuss the colour of Jon Snow’s ties • It is a private service to N.A.P.P members to discuss patient participation and to exchange ideas and project experiences - such as reports from members; experiences of setting up new groups; discussion of commissioning groups; Patient Reference Groups and DES; project reports • It will use the twitter Private Lists facility. The owner of the twitter account is the only person who can add people to the List • General twitter users cannot see or access these Private Lists • See Tee Morris, ‘Sams Teach Yourself Twitter, 2010, Pearson Education, 182pp • All N.A.P.P members will be offered access. Additional Private Lists may be set up for specific projects or collaborations • Needs ongoing management and initial IT skills (time) and will be a developing practical resource for the membership • Have an agreed process for adding people to the List(s)

And then what? • Eventually we might start a N.A.P.P blog to develop ideas and reports about patient participation • ........... but that is a little way down the road • ........... when we have more resources • ........... oh, and we could set up a YouTube account as well, to show all those videos of our CEO giving speeches.
