MASTERS Opportunities SSHRC • Joseph-Armand Bombardier CGS • Michael Smith Foreign Study Supplements CIHR • Frederick Banting and Charles Best CGS • Michael Smith Foreign Study Supplements Eligibility: • Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada • Application for first Masters (or equivalent) degree • Have not received a scholarship or fellowship from SSHRC, CIHR, or NSERC previously for Masters degree • Have completed not more than 12 months (ft) in a Masters program as of December 31, 2013 • Maintained first class average (last 2 years)

  3. Incoming VS Outgoing Model Incoming = Students apply for a CGS scholarship through the university they wish to attend Outgoing = Students apply for a CGS scholarship through the university they are currently registered

  4. Application • Create account on Research Portal • https://portal-portail-uat-tau.sshrc-crsh.gc.ca/s/Login.aspx?ReturnUrl=%2fs%2freg-insc.aspx • Create account with Common Curriculum Vitae • https://ccv-cvc.ca • Complete the CGSM Template for CCV

  5. Transcripts • Applicant is responsible to upload transcripts • Include all transcripts after high school • Copy legend side only once per institution (grading system) and add as last page for that institution • Attach as a single PDF to application on Research Portal • Most recent (top) to oldest (last)

  6. Research Proposal • Key to success • 2 pages maximum (use all space available) • Compelling – convincing – coherent – answering the vital question: • “WHY SHOULD YOUR RESEARCH BE FUNDED?”

  7. Referees • Identify and secure 2 referees that know you well • Deadline – November 18 • Must create their own registration to submit as a Reviewer • Double (triple) check that references have been uploaded successfully • You do not need a department appraisal

  8. MichaelSmith ForeignStudySupplements • Successful CGS M holders may apply • 2 deadlines per year (spring & fall) • Value $6,000 for research overseas (3-6 consecutive months) while enrolled in graduate studies at home institution

Deadline: December 1, 2013 @ 8 p.m. EST – which is 5 p.m. PST • Sunday – no IT support • Recommend application submission November 25 – 28 • Don’t forget to check Referees submissions • Don’t forget to upload required attachments • proof of Canadian Citizenship/Permanent Resident • Signatures • Transcripts • Remember to click “SUBMIT”

List of all applicants sent to TWU Review by TWU adjudication committee APRIL 1, 2014 – A-list applicants will be contacted Applicants have 3 weeks to accept After 3 weeks TWU may offer scholarships to applicants on Alternate list Successful applicants to submit Payment Activation form to Office of Graduate Studies Students will be notified when funds have been deposited to their account
