  1. Joshua Fuerst Initial idea

  2. What it is, is a piece of driftwood wedged in the sand.

  3. Project area • Where I am going to be during my spring break is a typical beach. • There will be a considerable amount of people, so the project idea has little chance of going unnoticed. Unless deliberately ignored.

  4. Project area • From morning to sundown there are many people going up and down the beach line. • With this kind of foot traffic I will not much of a problem with placing my drift wood. But will need to make sure it’s not obvious it was deliberately placed.

  5. Project area • When my driftwood is set in place I will then place myself in a observational base • From there I will wait and see any of whom would take notice it and video their reactions.

  6. What? • Now the presentation of the advertisement is not very traditional. • But the message it gives off is the key. • The driftwood will have a message of distress from what will seem like a young child from a poor country. • The message will be asking for help.

  7. What reason? • The main purpose that I am making this kind of message is because “I want to show people that they can’t really run away from such issues. They are still happening even as they sip their drinks on the beach.” • I don’t expect the audience to do something. But it is there reaction to the driftwood that I am looking for. • Do they ignore it, or do they become concerned?

  8. How? • Since my idea is using a piece of wood the only real concern of design is if it actually looks like a piece of wood that washed up on the beach. • The message that will be carved on the wood will be done sloppily but still readable, like how a child would. • At first I thought of writing the message in the language of the target country. But idea sunk.
