  2. The Graduation Project is…. • A new graduation requirement for all North Carolina high school students. • Great life preparation for our 21st century students. • A fun way for our students to learn about something they are interested in.

  3. The Graduation Project will… • Prepare our students for college and beyond. • Teach information skills in a fun way. • Provide meaningful relationships. • Be a confidence builder. • Be fun. • Be exciting for advisors watching our students gain valuable skills!

  4. The Graduation Project consists of … • A paper. • A tangible product of some kind. • A portfolio. • A presentation to a panel of community judges.

  5. Our job at school is … • To assign an advisor who will guide your child through the process. • To provide support and guidance. • To help your child to be organized. • To spot check progress along the way.

  6. Your job at home is … • To provide support and guidance. • To help your child find a mentor. • To help your child to be organized. • To spot check progress along the way.

  7. Fact or Myth? Students will be able to choose topics that will truly interest them. Fact! The whole idea of the project is for our students to be learning meaningful 21st century life skills.

  8. Fact or Myth? Students will have consistent guidelines to help them construct their Graduation Projects. Fact! Students will have access to a Graduation Project booklet that will have specific guidelines and requirements.

  9. Fact or Myth? Students will be on their own researching and writing their paper. False! In the ninth grade students will be starting to learn writing and information skills that will be used until the Graduation Project is complete.

  10. Fact or Myth? Students will be on their own to complete their Graduation Projects. Myth! Students will have a school advisor that will be their contact person. The advisor will guide your child throughout the Graduation Project.

  11. Fact or Myth? Students must find a mentor. Fact! Students will be looking for someone who is an expert on their chosen topic.

  12. Graduation Project In summary, this semester, students doing the Graduation Project will • Meet with an advisor to discuss the project components. • Turn in a project proposal form. • Select a mentor. • Begin work on GP product component.
