  1. Analyzing the Poem • Go to teacher website, find the Language Arts 7 page, and scroll to the last link under The Outsiders. • Open/download the attachment in Notablity. Your instructions for Page 1: • Underlinewords you need defined. Take a moment to look them up if you need. • In the space underneath the poem, type your answer to this question: What is the theme or life lesson from this poem? • There are at least five images that show this theme in the poem. Bold/color code/something at least 3 of them.

  2. Poem analysis continued… • Look on page 148. What are Johnny’s last words before he dies? • Think. What does Johnny mean by those words? What does he want Ponyboy to do? • So, Robert Frost says that nothing can stay gold, but Johnny tells Ponyboy to stay gold. Does Johnny agree with the theme of the poem?

  3. Filling out the chart • Directions: Scroll down past the poem and find the chart of characters (it should be page 2 of the attachment) • Let’s fill out Johnny together.
