  1. Daily Log #41 • Think about what the words “morality” and “honor” mean to you. How strong do you think a person’s moral code should be? Are there certain instances where bending the rules is okay? Is an honor code ALWAYS “black and white?” How far would you be willing to gain your own happiness?

  6. “The Devil and Tom Walker” • Read the short story and answer the questions. We will discuss these. • 1)What is important about the title? • 2) What are the conflicts in "The Devil and Tom Walker"? What types of conflict (physical, moral, intellectual, or emotional)? • 3) What are some themes in the story? • 4) What is the central/primary purpose of the story? Is the purpose important or meaningful? • 5) What supernatural or surprising events are employed by Washington Irving? Are these happenings believable?

  7. Wrap-Up • Think about your Daily Log questions. Has your perception changed at all? • What would YOU do if you were Tom’s situation? Write a letter to Tommy giving him some advice when approached. This can be written on your Daily Log page.
